A Course for Human Services Professionals
**ONLINE**
9:00am-4:30pm ET
One hour break from 12:00pm-1:00pm ET
How much do I tell my clients about my own mental and physical health struggles? Where does the line of therapeutic benefit exist in sharing of myself in clinical and larger work settings? What issues must I consider if I am feeling called to be candid about my own struggles in the public forum (e.g., blogging, videos, speaking, advocacy)?
These are the questions that many human services professionals pose as they navigate the critical balance between vulnerability, necessary boundaries, and protecting themselves. While there are many ethical issues at play in evaluating these questions that will be addressed in this course, the larger focus of the course is how we as a field can create a culture of advocacy and destigmatization of mental health and addiction struggles through our own appropriate self-disclosure. While literature on the topics at hand will be reviewed in the course, this particular course does invite you into a high degree of your own introspection that is essential to both personal and professional growth.
This course meets requirements established by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapists board for 3 CE credit hours for ethics.
Attendance at the entire event is required to receive CE. No partial credit can be given.

Identify one’s own intrapersonal and interpersonal blocks to engaging in appropriate self-disclosure, both clinically and in the public forum
