Join Dr. Jamie Marich for Dancing Mindfulness Facilitator Training delivered fully online. This training offers the standard curriculum that we deliver in a three-day in-person format, including a practicum component where you will have a chance to guide other trainees with your newly learned facilitation skills. Dr. Jamie Marich brings her nearly fifteen years of experience as an online learner, educator, and media content producer to this new format for offering the Dancing Mindfulness training.
This training is ideal for clinicians and other qualified professionals who respond well to self-directed assignments and can adapt well in an online learning format. A strong commitment to your own self-care, both physically and emotionally, is also required to complete the training in this format. Mindfulness is the simple practice of noticing without judgment and returning to the present moment. Moreover, the efficacy of mindfulness-informed clinical interventions are well-established in peer review literature, and the ways of teaching clients mindfulness skills for coping and distress tolerance are ever expanding in the clinical literature. Mindfulness, psychodrama, meditation, and yoga are modalities that can promote wellness and recovery, and the larger traditions of Gestalt psychotherapy and person-centered therapy have a rich tradition of drawing from their wisdom in clinical work. In this module of a larger expressive arts therapy training developed by Dr. Jamie Marich, using dance/movement and mindfulness, in conjunction with the other expressive arts, in a trauma-informed system of care is instructed. Dance becomes the primary avenue through which to access mindful awareness and connect to the multi-modality possibilities within the expressive arts therapies. For more information, see our website.
After completing this workshop training, Expressive Arts Therapy Module A (which fulfills requirements for the Dancing Mindfulness Facilitator Certification), participants will be able to:
- Define mindfulness from several different perspectives and explain how movement practices can fit the definition of mindfulness.
- List the seven primary qualities of mindful living as described by Jon Kabat-Zinn and explain how these relate to human wellness.
- Discuss the seven elements of the Dancing Mindfulness practice as an expressive arts therapy framework (i.e., breath, sound, body, mind, spirit, story, and fusion) and how each of the elements can be used to practice the qualities of mindful living and align with other clinical applications of mindfulness
- Identify at least three elements of psychotherapeutic approaches that appear in Dancing Mindfulness (e.g., Gestalt, psychodrama, mindfulness, movement/dance therapy, coping skills/breath work/somatic therapy, EMDR/bilateral reprocessing).
- Describe the benefits of a movement-based, holistic practice for emotional healing.
- Define what it means to be a trauma-sensitive professional, discussing how to keep a group of people safe, either in a community or clinical setting, while doing movement work, and describing triphasic (three-stage) model of trauma treatment.
- Explain the rationale of accessing body-based coping as optimal for recovery and wellness.
- Facilitate a group of individuals in the Dancing Mindfulness practice.
- Describe the subtle differences between facilitating Dancing Mindfulness in community versus clinical settings and apply them accordingly.
- Explain how dancing and other movement-based or spiritually-based practices found in the community qualify as "coping skills" for recovery and wellness.
- Articulate how engaging in movement-based wellness programs like Dancing Mindfulness can promote one's own sense of self-care as a professional.
- Present the benefits of a practice like Dancing Mindfulness in your community to yoga studio owners, clinical/program directors, etc.
- Articulate the basic tenets of expressive arts therapy as a multi-modal approach to healing and discuss how Dancing Mindfulness fits into this paradigm; develop programs of implementation in clinical or community settings accordingly.

About the instructor
Dr. Jamie Marich describes herself as a facilitator of transformative experiences. A clinical trauma specialist, expressive artist, writer, yogini, performer, short filmmaker, Reiki master, and recovery advocate, she unites all of these elements in her mission to inspire healing in others. She began her career as a humanitarian aid worker in Bosnia-Hercegovina from 2000-2003, primarily teaching English and music while freelancing with other projects. Jamie travels internationally teaching on topics related to trauma, EMDR therapy, expressive arts, mindfulness, and yoga, while maintaining a private practice in her home base of Warren, OH. Marich is the founder of the Institute for Creative Mindfulness and the developer of the Dancing Mindfulness practice to expressive arts therapy. She is also the co-creator of the Yoga Unchained approach to trauma-informed yoga, and the developer of Yoga for Clinicians. Marich is the author of EMDR Made Simple: 4 Approaches for Using EMDR with Every Client (2011), Trauma and the Twelve Steps: A Complete Guide for Recovery Enhancement (2012), Creative Mindfulness (2013), Trauma Made Simple: Competencies in Assessment, Treatment, and Working with Survivors, and Dancing Mindfulness: A Creative Path to Healing and Transformation (2015). Marich co-authored EMDR Therapy & Mindfulness for Trauma-Focused Care along with colleague Dr. Stephen Dansiger, which was released with Springer Publishing in 2017. Her newest title, Process Not Perfection: Expressive Arts Solutions for Trauma Recovery, released in April 2019. North Atlantic Books is publishing a second and expanded edition of Trauma and the 12 Steps, due for release in the Summer of 2020. Marich’s writing and work on Dancing Mindfulness was featured in the New York Times in 2017. In 2015, she had the privilege of delivering a TEDx talk on trauma. NALGAP: The Association of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Addiction Professionals and Their Allies awarded Jamie with their esteemed President’s Award in 2015 for her work as an LGBT advocate. The EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) granted Jamie the 2019 Advocacy in EMDR Award for her using her public platform in media and in the addiction field to advance awareness about EMDR therapy and to reduce stigma around mental health.
This is live interactive webinar based training. This is a beginner level course. Attendance at all live sessions, and course evaluation is required to receive CE Certificate. Course evaluations are made available after all live sessions have been completed within this course portal. Upon completing the evaluation, participants will be able to download their CE certificates. CE certificates will be downloadable for thirty days after the training.

- Preparedness for Doing Your Own Work: Throughout the training, I will be expected to participate in a working practicum experiences in order to receive the certification. If I am currently in counseling or being treated for a mental health condition, it is recommended that I speak with my provider, alerting them that I am participating in the training. If I've received a major mental health diagnosis (past or present), I acknowledge that I am taking this training and engaging in this practicum at my own risk, and that I will alert faculty or training staff before or during the training if any complications arise. I acknowledge that everyone taking part in the practicum experiences are new to Dancing Mindfulness as fellow professionals learning alongside me and I agree to keep the space as safe as possible for all involved. If any problems arise, I agree to address them with faculty or staff members. I also acknowledge that I am in good enough of a physical to take this multi-day training and that if I have any concerns, I've addressed them with my treating physician. You do have the right to participate in the sitting position throughout the training, and we cover appropriate modifications that you can make to address physical concerns or limitations.
