Prerequisites

This training is intended for mental health practitioners who have completed at least Part I of Foundational EMDR Training through ICM or another EMDRIA-approved program.

Benefits

Trainees receive 18 CEs for completing this course (see more information below).

Training Description

This advanced practice workshop will delve into the wide range of disruptive events that can occur in the perinatal and reproductive periods. Participants will learn to identify formative events that induce ruptures in the normative developmental path of family-building. Additionally, participants will hone the ability to recognize the common clinical presentations of patients suffering from traumatizing reproductive/perinatal events.

Trainees will build competencies in the following areas:

  •  Understanding the Three Core Tasks parents face during the perinatal period (Davis & Stein, 2003) and applying this framework to build skills in practices of history-taking and case conceptualization. Participants will develop nuance and specificity in the assessment of ruptures in the perinatal period.

  • Using EMDR’s 3-prongs and 8-phases through the lens of Adaptive Information Processing,  attendees will develop their clinical conceptualization skills to guide decision making around the preparation and resourcing phases of EMDR, targets and protocols.

  • Case studies will be utilized to integrate learnings in conceptualization and treatment-planning with EMDR therapy’s 8-phase standard protocol.

  • Increased understanding of how trauma affects the brain, and how EMDR can improve client outcomes.  Participants will enhance their ability to identify and heal hidden perinatal trauma with clients.

  • Learn advanced practice applications including the integration of AIP-based interventions. and modifications across all prongs and phases of EMDR treatment.

Course Objectives

  • Understand how developmentally supportive, relationship-centered care is integral to  trauma recovery.

  •  Recognize and describe the parameters of normative perinatal mental health as well as mental health impacted by disruptive events during this period.
